How to optimize blog/website for search engine - Top rated Tips

Today I am going to tell you how to optimize you blog or site for a search engine. I implemented a few technique on one of my blog and within 15 days I started receiving traffic…!!

So What are we waiting for, Lets start optimizing.

Step 1: Register a domain

Register a domain as soon as possible. This domain should be a good keyword. You can use google adwords for this purpose. There are a lot of companies which offers domain like Godaddy, 101 domains etc. But never choose free domain like .tk, These free domains have bad reputation in the saearch engines.

Step 2: Register for Web Master tools

Register your blog at different web master tools. These web master tools will help the world to see your site. With these tools you can index your site. Indexing will help  generate traffic from search engines like Google, Bing and Pinterest etc. Google web master tools are the best because 68% of the people use google for search while 24% of people use Bing for search.

Step 3: Add a Description to each of your post and page

Search Descriptions are used by search engines to find what is the content of your page. Search engines don’t read whole of your post content, it only reads the search descriptions. These search descriptions are  also very useful for your site rank.

You can add these description while posting. In case of Blogger you can add it from post setting menu. see figure for example

You can add it in wordpress in a similar way, from left side menu in edit post page

Step 4: Use Anchor Text

The anchor text or link text is the visible, clickable text in a hyperlink. The words contained in the anchor text can determine the ranking that the page will receive by search engine. This is an Example oh Anchor text.

Step 5: Optimize your links (Permalinks)

Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your individual weblog posts. In blogger and wordpress, by default it may looks like this,

It looks bad, search engine don’t understand it, what if its like this,

Now lets optimize it,

In blogger, you can set it from post setting menu, see figure

In case of Wordpress, you can add it from settings ->  permalink.

Step 6: Add site maps

A sitemap is a file where you can list the web pages of your site to tell search engines about the organization of your site content. Search engine web crawlers like Googlebot read this file to more intelligently crawl your site. You should submit your sitemap to google, bing, ask etc. Asimple example of a site map generated is,
/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

Step 7: Backlinks

Back links or incoming links are hyperlinks which links from a webpage back to your webpage. Search engines, including Google will consider web pages with more back links more relevant in search results pages.
There are a lot of ways to make your back links. You can write a guest post on someone else blog and mention your back link there or you can use the websites that offers you free back links or you can use forums like Quora, where you can post your link in your answers. But beware of some sites that offers you free or paid backlinks because google will not accept that links. So before buying back links do check the site.

Step 8: Submit your page for crawling

A Web crawler is an Internet robot which systematically browses the World wide web typically for the purpose of web indexing.
You should submit your page immediately for crawling after publishing it through your web master tool.

Step 9: Register for Google Analytic

Registering for Google Analytic will help you to check your Audience level, bounce rate, keywords and a lot of other parameters. You can easily find loopholes in your blog/site and adjust it later on.
